What is a Gastric Emptying Scan?

Gastric Emptying Scans are used to evaluate stomach function.

What takes place during the test?

You will be served a small meal of scrambled eggs and juice containing a radionuclide material. The food and beverage taste will not be altered by the radionuclide. Immediately following the meal you will be scanned. During the scan, you will lie on the imaging table with the camera positioned above or below you while several images are taken.

How long will the test take to complete?

Approximately 2 - 3 hours.
