Student Researcher, Mentor: Dr. Webb Smith

Recruited and tested youth with severe obesity at the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic to examine the physiological responses to playing several active video games compared to walking and watching TV. Managed the set-up of an experimental active video game and provided feedback to game developers. Consented and counseled patients and parents on the risks and benefits of the study. Guided patients through the 4-hour study and obtained their feedback. Gathered, analyzed, and interpreted the results obtained from the Zephyr Bioharness. The study has recruited even more patients, and the active video game is being piloted as a physical education experience in several inner-city schools in Memphis.
